How to Get There | Public Transport The nearest railway station is at Lithgow. A taxi ride from the station to the Centre is approximately 7km and costs about $30 each way. A bus service (Route 600) runs from outside the Post Office (which is situated on Main Street across the road from the railway station) to the Centre on Saturdays only. The bus leaves at 8.57am and arrives across the road from the Lithgow Correctional Centre on the Great Western Highway at approximately 9.13am. The return bus leaves the Great Western Highway at 12:27pm and returns to Lithgow Railway at 12:38pm. There is no bus on Sundays. Countrylink Information Private Transport Travelling from Sydney, continue through Lithgow on the Great Western Highway. The turnoff to the Centre is signposted. There is ample parking at the Centre. |

Education & Skill Development | Provides textiles, a Public Sector Business Unit, Technology/Packing & Assembly and Service Industries. Training programs are provided in the form of WorkCover, OH&S, TAFE and CSI Task Books. The centre also provides apprenticeships in Plumbing. The Adult Education and Vocational Training Institute (AEVTI) provides literacy, numeracy and communications courses in all centres. Many centres also offer vocational courses such as Information Technology, Horticulture, Construction, Visual Arts and Contemporary Craft. AEVTI contracts TAFE NSW and other providers to deliver courses in a range of vocational areas such as Hospitality, Business Skills, Building, Cleaning, Transport, Aboriginal Studies, Horticulture and various WorkCover licenses. AEVTI also co-ordinates traineeships and apprenticeships and offers support for distance education. Each centre has a library giving inmates access to a range of fiction, non-fiction and reference books. Inmates can also login to a secure internal network called the Inmate Legal Portal which gives them access to material of a legal nature. |
